Lose Weight Faster With These 5 Tips!
We want weight loss to be fast, effective and painless. We want to be able to snap our fingers and SHAZAM!, all our unwanted body fat, gone. However, we know that doesn’t happen, nor will it ever. Its time you put the fad diets, “magic pills” and waist trainers aside and get serious about achieving your weight loss goals, permanently.
Follow these 5 steps and I guarantee you, you will lose that unwanted body fat;
1. Hire a Professional
Now before you roll your eyes and head for the door, hear me out for a minute! I know what you’re thinking; I clicked on this blog to get advice on how to lose fat and this guy wants me to spend money on a personal trainer. What the… But wait, hear me out! If you are serious about getting to your goal and losing that stubborn belly fat, you need to hire a professional. Think about it like this: when your car breaks down, what do you do? Most people take it to a professional mechanic. When you need to trim or cut your hair, what do you do? You go to a professional barber or hair stylist. When you have a toothache or a cavity, what do you do? I think you’re getting the point here.
I can’t seem to understand why the same doesn’t happen when someone says they want to lose weight; be it 100 lbs., 40 lbs. or even 10 lbs. When you’re not where you want to be or something is broken, it’s acceptable to seek help from a professional. Now, define the word professional? This word is thrown around quite loosely in the fitness industry. Since there is no regulation in North America (unlike many other foreign countries) you need to do your homework on what to look for in a Trainer. (Check out my post; You NEED To Read This Before Hiring A Personal Trainer!, for advice on hiring the right trainer for you). It’ time that you take care of your health and I’m telling you, its okay to be a little selfish when it comes to your health. “There is no way I can afford that” — I’ve heard it hundreds of times over the last decade. What I’ve learned over the last 7 + years however is that “I can’t”, actually means “I don’t want to”. Clients tell me they “can’t” do one more rep, they “can’t” push any farther. In reality it’s their mind telling their body that they “don’t want to” because it is uncomfortable. I remind them why they are doing it and they instantly do what they said they initially said they couldn’t. Oh and
10 burpees for saying the word “can’t”– Automatically 10 burpees, every time!
No Seriously Though…
Take the time to sit down with a professional personal trainer and calculate your finances. By cutting out the majority of the lifestyle changes that are necessary to change to hit your goals, you may find that you can afford a trainer and in some cases actually save money! I once met with a potential client and asked that he bring me all of the receipts that he was spending on only alcohol over a 1 week period. It exceeded $400! (Naturally he assumed without much consideration that it was a little over $100). Needless to say, he quickly invested in training and hasn’t had a sip of alcohol in over 2 years!
2. Preperation is key!
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, we all have. Yet for some reason we tend to ignore it when focusing on preparation could be the difference between failure and success.
Set Yourself Up For Success!
When it comes down to it, weight loss can be incredibly simple. Burn more calories than you consume and your weight will go down. Sounds simple right? Well, that depends on your personal situation. Let’s review — You have been awake and moving since 6:00am. A long, grueling day at work and you are just getting ready to head home – You are exhausted. You’ve been so busy at work you realize you didn’t even eat lunch and you are starving.
After getting in your vehicle and starting your long trek home, you realize that you’ve just pulled into what might feel like the longest traffic jam you’ve ever seen. You instantly regret missing lunch and all you can hear is the awful sound of your stomach screaming at you to be fed. You begin to tell yourself stories “I missed lunch, therefore I am below my calories for the day, of course I can just grab something and I’ll be fine!” It’s now been almost 5 hours since you last ate and you decide to just stop at the next fast food joint and no one is going to stop you.
Your choice of “nutrient dense low calorie” food is far beyond unacceptable to support your fat loss goal. Before you know it, you’ve consumed more calories than you have burned for the day and you can’t seem to figure out why the scale hasn’t budged. You have now consumed a large amount of processed shit (for lack of a better term) and are on the verge of an insulin spike. As Isaac Newton once discovered, what goes up, must come down. Your spike
has now caused a crash and within hours, you are hungry again.
You feel that since you have already sabotaged the day with your unplanned cheat meal you may as well keep going. MMMM… chips.
I’ve heard every excuse in the book for not losing weight, (it’s all my trainers fault, right?) but when it comes down to it, most people don’t achieve their fat loss goals because they weren’t prepared.
Spend the time to sit down and cook your meals. I always ask clients “how many times do you eat fast food?” The common answer, “oh you know, maybe once or twice, not that often”. Really? Because anytime you eat a meal that isn’t cooked at home, you are eating “fast food” and most of the time it’s because you weren’t prepared. Now, I’m not saying you can’t go out and enjoy a nice sit down dinner once and a while or enjoy an occasional ‘cheat meal’ or to even suggest that you’re going to have to prepare your meals for the rest of your life. Remember, keep it in check, burn more calories than you consume and the weight will go down.

Within an 8km radius, I calculated there are 120 fast food/restaurants in the vicinity of my house! ONE, HUNDRED & TWENTY packed fast food chains and restaurants that are all in business for one reason: to make money.
3. Join a Challenge
Nearly all of the clients that I work with are entered into a client-only challenge. They compete against each other to see who can create the biggest and most dramatic body transformation. At the end of the 90 days, the winner gets to take home their new body (score!) and $1000 cash prize. I’ve found that challenges can be a great way to motivate people even farther than they dreamed possible. Whether it be for bragging rights or some vacation money, it works. Set a goal, set a realistic time frame and see who can get there first. Or better yet, put some money on the line and have a mutual set of friends or family vote on the winner! Amazing things happen when you help hold each other accountable. Check out my challenge here.
4. Post-it Everywhere!
In order to become successful you first have to envision yourself becoming successful. Set your goals and write them down. Once you’ve written them down, leave post-it notes in the places you are most likely to push farther from your goals.
Leave one on the outside or the inside of the fridge door. Next time you’re about to have a ‘snac-cident’, you’ll be reminded ofyour goals and why you started in the first place. Surround yourself with positivity and encouragement that you can do this! Pick the 3 most visited places that you commonly pass by in a day and attach a sticky note with your goals. Place one in the bathroom, on your car steering wheel, the front door (or back door depending which you use most) -everywhere. This way, you’ll constantly be reminded of your goals first thing when you wake up, every time you leave and enter the house and every time you’re stuck in traffic contemplating how to choose 1 out of 120 places to not eat from. 🙂
5. Create a Calorie Deficit and Work Your Butt Off! Literally…
People often ask me, “what’s the secret to losing weight?” as though it’s some ancient written code that only certain people are allowed the answer too. My response every time: be consistent and work your butt off. If you want to lose weight, you need to work for it and you need to be consistent. There is NO magic diet or magic supplement that is going to do it for you. And in all honesty, there is no perfect workout program or meal plan that is going to trump all others.
In order to lose body fat, you need to burn more calories than you take in. By creating a calorie deficit through eating nutrient dense foods and exercising regularly, you will lose weight. People often stress too much about what supplements they should be taking or which waist trimmer they should be wrapping around their waist (please stop). Everyone is different and will respond at different rates and to different stimulus. But be consistent and work your butt off, Every, Damn, Day. I didn’t come up with it, science did and it works.
